Neck pain is very common in our society today due to the inactive lifestyle many people live. Even those who are active on a regular basis, though, may experience neck pain in one form or another.
WHAT CAUSES IT
Neck pain can be postural in nature but also can be caused by over activity in the shoulder muscles. It may even be connected to the way you breathe. Our postural habits are due to our lifestyle choices such as driving, studying, working at a computer or walking. Some neck pain can be attributed to temporomandibular (jaw) dysfunction.
HOW WE ASSESS YOUR PAIN
During your assessment, our trained physiotherapists will assess your upper and lower cervical spine, thoracic spine, lumbar spine and shoulders to confirm or rule out a postural issue. From there, we will look at your breathing, your sitting position at work, if applicable, and dive into your daily activities – down to the way you answer your phone.
Subtle changes to all of the above structures along with some home exercises will relieve your pain. Once you are pain free, we’ll work with you to devise a maintenance program to avoid that issue arising again.
If you’re not sure whether or not physiotherapy can help, don’t hesitate to contact us for a complimentary consultation. We’ll discuss your symptoms and see if our services are the right course of treatment for you.
