Headaches and Migraines
Everybody has suffered from a headache or migraine at some stage of their life. Some of those people may have researched their problems online if they continue to persist. In the medical world there are over 300 types of migraine categories and trying to understand all of them can be baffling.
What causes Headaches and Migraines
A simple approach to treating headache is looking at the neck position. For example looking at a computer or driving, the neck position is extended and quite often the shoulders are slouched which increases tension in the upper cervical spine. This in turn refers pain to your head, forehead, temple or behind your eye in come cases.
How we assess your pain
A simple and quick assessment and treatment of the upper cervical spine can give instant relief from your pain. In addition to treating the joints in your neck your physio can also teach you to self treat these pains when they come on in the future. Furthermore they can educate you on what positions commonly cause the pain and how you can manage your working day to avoid the return of that debilitating pain.
Finally other factors that could be causing symptoms of headaches and migraines are trigger points. These are tender point in your muscles surrounding your neck and shoulder. Structural these points are tight bands of muscle that refer pain into areas as shown in the image above.
